AAA Meeting – Customer service rollercoaster

How’s things?! Isn’ now things are getting back into routine? Le sigh!!! I love it!! Kids are back at school, calendars are getting filled, endless options are now back on TV… Just a note on that one. Is anyone My Kitchen Rules? Isn’t it sooo predictable?! #SOS! Years ago when it started I was THE biggest fan!! When I was in labour with my youngest, we drove 90 minutes to the nearest hospital, raced through the Chicken Treat drive-through (no shit – Farmer insisted), screamed into the hospital, and besides those god awful killer contractions, all I was worried about was finding the god damn remote to tune into MKR. We then enjoyed watching our favourite show whilst scoffing chicken dinners! #romance  I just can’t watch it now, I’ve seen it all before! I do like the First Dates show though, that’s a cracker!! And yes, we’ve been sucked into Farmer wants a wife, it’s Farmer’s favourite!

So anyways!! Meeting time! A really REALLY good thing happened today. In fact, the very reason why I started a blog about awesome service relates to what happened today!! Today our house had it’s 6 month checkup completed. Only 2 years late!! The customer service we received for the entire 3.5 years of dealing with our new builders was a rollercoaster ride of emotions to put it mildly! And I’m sure many of you can nod your head and agree building a house is bloody hard. Living 4 hours away from our builders did have it’s moments but getting us to sign the bottom line AND accepting our money worked perfectly fine so we honestly thought there wouldn’t be a problem.

The company we used was very new and it went through so many staff changes. We never knew who we were talking to next. Things discussed and agreed on with one person was later forgotten when that person no longer worked there. Mistakes on our house began to show and the communication completely failed. Farmer had to hold me back from not driving all the way to their office and get all Gordon Ramsay on them! We were furious!!!!

BUUUUUT!! You also may note on the blog….and hi if you’re new, thanks for stopping by, I love you for that….I’m a big fan of daytime TV favourites Oprah and Ellen. When they help people and thank them, I swear I get all teared up. Showing kindness, appreciation AND VALIDATION (a big favourite of Oprah’s) is where it’s truly at!! So rather than commit to making a grand performance in our builder’s office (aka massive tantrum!!) why not channel this furry into something good. Let’s create a little community that celebrates those that are WINNING at excellent customer service!! Let’s put the ol redcarpet spotlight on these lovely people.

Have you ever watched the news recently?! It’s full of crime and sadness and you really start to question is there any good left in the world! The way I see it….. is, we all use various services each and every day in our lives. Doctors, mailman, retail staff, the guy at the petrol station, the Lollypop man, the police, a school teacher, bank teller….everyday people!! Strangers or familiar faces that we come across that assist us in some way. Every now and then you’ll find a gem that goes above and beyond in what they do, they really go the extra mile to help you out. They care and perhaps even make you smile. These are the people worth celebrating. These are the people I love sending thanks to!!

As you know social media is a powerful tool, and many a rant is made when people aren’t happy with the service they received. The reason our house FINALLY had it’s 6 month check up is because I used social media to my advantage. Don’t worry, I held back. I was polite. The builder in question was offering a Christmas Bunnings voucher asking “What would you like for Christmas?” I replied “Our overdue 6 month checkup would be icing on the cake thanks” and within 10 minutes I had a phone call with the best customer service I’d received yet. Another new staff member yes, but all that pent up rage soon disappeared as I was assured all will be taken care of. I was so impressed I jumped back on that post and thanked them very much and praised the wonderful staff member for his service. And today that promise came to fruition. We’re thrilled it’s finally done. Do we love our house? Abserbloodylutely!! Would we build again? Not a fkn chance! Would we recommend the builder? Ask me again in 5 years time 🙂 I sure am glad we had a happy ending though. I have my blog to thank so looking for the silver lining. Awesome service triumphed in the end.

    Gotta love great service! Late last year, I took my car to get serviced at Subaru, took the courtesy bus into the city, and promptly tripped over my own feet and banged up my knee. I couldn’t walk. Even though it was not their fault at all, the courtesy bus driver (Gary) carried me back on to the bus, then when I said I felt sick he said just be sick, I’ll clean it later! (I managed not to be sick, but it was so lovely of him!) He took me back to Subaru, they iced my knee and found me some crutches, called me a cab and gave me a Cab charge to get home, brought me some lunch and a drink, and called me the next day to make sure I was okay and ask if I needed them to return my car or if someone would be collecting it. BEST. SERVICE. EVER. #teamIBOT

      Holy smokes Emily!!!! This is unbelievable!!! That is like superior GOLD class service. The fact that he was cool if you were sick is amazing coz even if my kids threw up in the car I’d be like “Really??, in the car?? God no!! Hold it in til we stop buddy!!” Gary the champ – nice spotting Em 😉 xx

    Phew! You sure do fit a lot in Miss Jo! I wish I could nominate someone for good service, but it’s few & far between these days…… maybe I just don’t get out enough! Although I’m thinking The D-Man’s new Pre Primary teacher could do with an award of some kind heading into week 2! Ha ha!

I need a wine just thinking about it!! Soooo many big personalities in the one class – love it!! No wonder I’m a calmer woman these days xx

    Oh I love a story with a happy ending. Did you get the Bunnings Gift Card and the belated 6 month check up? I hope so. Nothing to report this month I’m afraid – I think I need to get out more and get on the receiving end of some star service!

      I didn’t win the Bunnings gift card – no! Thought we deserved it mind you. Even a Dan Murphey’s gift card would of been good to recoup the extra booze we drank to cope! hahaha! You’ve got all of Feb to be dazzled by great service Sam. Valentines is coming up – that could be a winner! Or everyday people you bump into each day xx

      YES! I’m sure if I had done that I would be the office pin up “psycho lady” haha!! Don’t want that tag just yet!! I forgot to ad I also watched A LOT of that UK show Cowboy Builders. Now there’s some dodgy stuff going on. Our house wasn’t that bad but it certainly inspired some assertive emails I can assure you 😉

    I think it’s a shame when we have to go to social media to get good service – I’ve tried things in private before and the company has fobbed me off, then when I complain in public they care and fix it.

      I think it’s just the way of the world Vanessa. Social media is like a stage and every business is on performance. One stuff up and people may boo or laugh. It’s a great way of keeping businesses accountable – no one like bad press. That’s why we need to keep it positive and share the love if someone is worthy 🙂

      Actually when I say I have one grrr, there are actually three different companies I could get grumpy about as we try to get our bathroom reno started… Mmm…..

      It’s a no wonder reality TV shows thought a few building shows would be a hit….DRAMA!! Even tradies on national TV can be just as wtf in real life. I think tradies especially – if you find a good one, NEVER let him go!!

    Good on you, Jo. There just isn’t enough good customer service these days. It drives me absolutely batty. When we do get good service, it definitely needs to be celebrated!

      Hell to the yes Renee! Us Mum’s especially know how hard it is to actually get out the door with little ones, so when someone is unexpectedly kind it means so much! Like THANK YOU! You’ve made my day!!

    I’ve learned recently that going in guns blazing very rarely has the desired effect. Aggression often meets aggression and it’s easy for situations to get completely blown out of proportion. My recent good customer service is a woman who works at my local Coles. She is always friendly and up for a chat. In fact when I am having a crappy day I will often go out of my way to go into her lane because she always manages to cheer me up!

      Oh she sounds lovely Teagan – you must get her name for me! She sounds like a real sweetheart. And yes! You’re quite right! Going in guns blazing I’m pretty sure will get the walls up – which is the EXACT opposite of what you intended to get out them. Keep emotions at bay and go in on a softer angle works 🙂
