What’s your idea of romance?

Happy Valentines Day! Gawd that sounds so cheesy but it happens only once a year so surely it can’t be that bad!? But so many people roll their eyes and mutter it’s not something they celebrate. It seems a little forced to tell the one you love just how much you love them on a hallmark kind of day yet many moons ago I wished like hell I’d be lucky enough to receive a card full of all the words I wanted to hear…except when it’s someone you’re completely not attracted to! via GIPHY That’s a bit of a clanger right there really. It takes so much courage as it is to admit to someone you fancy them but if it’s not returned well that’s all kind of awks. Let me take you back to circa 1993 (shit really?!!) I was fresh outta high school and still too shit scared to talk to boys. I was still in the land of major crushes and had one on a guy in my class – let’s call him *Bob. *Bob was tall and gangly, flicked his hair a lot (omergawd) and had an earring. He was into Midnight Oil a lot and suddenly so […]

Gilmore who!??

Of course you know which Gilmore’s I’m talking about…and it’s not Adam Sandler. Have you been getting into the Gilmore Girls? There’s soooo much excitement about it’s return and rightly so but how in the world did I miss this show?! I’ve only ever seen half an episode a few weeks ago. I was very impressed! I messaged my buddy Veggie Mama (Gilmore Girl guru) and she confirmed 7 series worth I need to catch up on – woh! The fact that I’ve missed the boat on this one baffles me as I like to keep up to date on all cool things on the box. Let me explain. My 20 year High School Reunion an old friend said “So Jo, do you still watch heaps of TV?” which at first I was like “Who me, I don’t watch that much!” but when I thought about it, yeah I kinda do. I get on all the crazy teen band wagons. I was obsessed with 90210. I would tape it on the VCR, for you young kids that’s what we did in the 80’s, without the ads and decorate the actual tape with pictures of the Brenda, Kelly, Dylan, the whole […]

Taking Stock – September 2016

I’m back to the land of blog! Yay! And what better way to ease gently into things than by taking stock. This time round however life has changed completely. And all for the good mind you – just someone pass me the berocca!! You can look back where my head was at a few months ago here. Taking Stock was an idea originally posted by Pip from Meet Me at Mikes. I liked it so much I thought I’d jump on board and play too 🙂 Turns out that job I was pining for…I got it!! Add two conferences, a trip to Bali and a couple of hangovers later, life sure is CRAZY but super GOOD FUN too! Here’s where it’s at while we comfortably settle into Spring. Making : A dent in the washing, I hope. It just keeps on growing! Cooking : Nothing will ever compare to the amazing French cooking our bloggy friend Cathy made for us – DIVINE!!! Drinking : A cup of tea. I have drank enough lately, trust me Reading: I actually have two books on the go at the moment. Rosie Waterland’s The Anti Cool Girl – what a life story!? And Amy Schumer’s The Girl with the […]

Alcohol, the answer to all good networking

Alcohol! Yes! I’m rather fond of it! But not in a Patsy & Edina kind of way darling, darling! Maybe on occasion but as you and I well know, the older you get the harder it gets to handle excess like you once handled in your supple years. I just like enough to get merry and a wee bit excited which seems rather appropriate I write such a post with only 2 sleeps til we head to Bali to celebrate Farmer’s 40th – as you do. Kid free. I plan to take it easy but we shall see. As I reflect on the awesome Tourism conference I went on last week, and reflect on years of working in Hospitality, I’ve noticed the benefits of alcohol whilst networking makes such a difference. I’ve been in a few meetings of late and the agenda format, minutes and motions all take quite some time to roll out. However, I’m wondering if we would of absorbed everything with far more ease and good banter if it was in a sundowner type setting. I’ve been to a few sundowners in the past few weeks and with the help of a few glasses of bubbles I now have […]

What do we tell our kids?

I’m not sure if it’s my hormones or just a build up from yet another shooting tragedy but I can’t seem to stop crying. My kids are quick to spot if I’m crying at something and I love how they empathise and give me a big hug, reassuring everything will be alright but this time I’m struggling to wonder.  My 5 year old is at the age where he absorbs everything. Admittedly we watch the 6 o’clock news each night but lately I’m worried all the violent reportings and tragic news is starting to sink in. I have a t-shirt I bought years ago with a picture of Obama’s face on it. It was quite cute teaching him Obama was “the boss of America” and pointing on the globe where that was exactly. As we were watching the news recently, Donald Trump was ranting and raving and my 5 year old asked me who was that bad man with the orange hair. I explained that he too wanted to be the boss of America, so we’d just have to wait and see what happens. Living in a 5 year old Spiderman, Avengers and Ninja Turtle kinda mind, I can see […]

Sisterhood of the World Blogging Award

The gorgeous Sammie gave me the Sisterhood of the World Blog award – isn’t she the sweetest. It’s a great excuse to pop the kettle on, have a chocolate biscuit, donut?, a piece of fruit…sheesh! and get to know me a little more. Let’s do this 🙂 1. Savoury or sweet? I’d have to say I’m an even split on this one. As many of you know fudge is my weakness. My brother had the Best Fudge Maker title for years. Then enter the uber talented Sammie! Sam’s famous fudge recipe plus a thermo and wala! My bro has happily given the family crown of Best Fudge Maker to me! Haha! I could seriously eat 10 pieces in one sitting no probs. Come to savory – sit me near salad and I will graze all day long! And cheeses are my weakness! I LOOOOOOVE cheese! Buggar it’s fattening. Brie is my absolute fave. A dear friend of mine gave me a huge wheel of brie after my last cheeky monkey was born. He kinda found out back in the days when he was my boss, me and the girls would sneak large amounts of brie and crackers (and a little […]

Kindness is the new Black

It’s roundabout this time of year whilst we’re all rushing towards the end of the school year, tying up loose ends at work before the Christmas break or in our case on the farm – rushing to get harvest done because a certain someone planned a family trip end of December (note to self – never do that again! You can never rely on the weather!!) By the time Christmas day comes, us adults can’t wait for that afternoon nap on the couch. But during this December haze, sadly tragic events occur that reminds us to be kind to our family, friends, neighbours, workmates, ourselves and even strangers. You’ve no doubt heard about the gut wrenching story of little Sam Trott who went missing in a Perth suburb a few days ago and the devastating ending we all prayed would never happen. It’s affected the Perth community greatly and it’s times like these, our heavy hearts make us bond together. It’s possible to forget about our private personal lives and offer kindness and compassion to people we normally wouldn’t know. It’s comforting to know that people we haven’t even met, are capable of caring for us and our welfare. What […]

Christmas shopping and tantrums

I think I’m just getting over my quick dash to Perth. I thought just travelling with the 1 cherub would be easy street but no no! This just gave center stage for my charming 4 yr old. There were great moments for sure. Like stopping at our favourite Deli in Brookton. I just can’t get enough of those quiches! We also discovered they sell these… L&P Whittaker chocolates! Hooley dooley they are the bomb!! If you haven’t tried the New Zealand made soft drink already, its made from lemon and paeroa. So it’s a pleasant fresh unique taste that’s highly addictive if you ever find yourself in New Zealand! Combine that with white Whittaker chocolate AND popping candy!! Divine! Get thee to a kiwi shop and stock up! So as were singing away and eating chocolate and Christmas lollies like you do, I forgot kids can sometimes get car sick when travelling. This was noted of course once I hit the traffic and we were in a concrete jungle with limited fresh air. Luckily I managed to pull over, hug my little man, and suggest a shopping trip might make him feel better. Bit like his mother – all of a […]
