Welcome FINALLY to a AAA Meeting! Oh my word it’s been awhile but ya know, new job and all kinda keeps a girl busy! And of all the jobs in the lands I cannot believe how this one fits me like a glove. It’s got a little bit of everything and it’s school hours too so it’s PERFECT! And yes, you read right, we got a brand new puppy the same week I went back to work – what in the world were we thinking?!! I’d like to say I quit sugar too but let’s just say I cut back. But all up, we managed ok, so here’s how it all went down.
Earlier this year I joined our local Visitor Centre Committee. It was something I had planned to do as I studied Tourism after my travels. I had planned to get involved once my youngest was at school full time but the committee needed members so I jumped in to see what it was all about. I loved it! I’d forgotten how passionate I was about all things Tourism. I guess six years being a stay at home Mum can keep you busy like that.
I did the minutes a few times for the meeting and it was so interesting. I remember doing minutes for Council Meetings years ago and it was so intense, it didn’t interest me at all. Doing something you love, well that’s totally different. I had a few friends in the group and I’m sure we’ve been texting each other everyday from that point on. Whether it’s to do with the committee or just everyday laughs. It’s funny how friendships grow, especially in a small town. I’d be lost without them 🙂
When I found out my friend was expecting I suddenly romanced about maybe doing her job at the Visitors Centre while she was on maternity leave. Hmmmm! I think that was when things got a little quiet here on the blog. I was busy preparing my resume – how long do those take to dust off!?! – writing articles to help out, tackling the selection criteria – all those sorts of things. I suddenly noticed a shift in myself too. I started nesting, as if I knew a change was coming. I was meal planning like a demon, like I knew I had to be organised, the laundry baskets were empty and I was cleaning the bathrooms twice a week?! What sort of crazy lady does that!?
I was getting nervous hearing word on the street how many applicants there was for the job but I had to remind myself to be cool. What will be will be, just be myself, all that sort of thing, Poor Farmer saw the highs and lows of my Wonder Woman confidence to major self doubt. He’s such a champ! I only had to wait a week to find out how my interview went but that week felt like the longest month.
While this was all happening we found the perfect puppy from a gorgeous friend of mine in Brisbane. Farmer has always wanted a black Staffy so we jumped at the chance. Our little guy flew over from Brisbane, Farmer picked him up and drove all the way back home again. He’s such a chilled out little guy, we couldn’t help but name him Cruz. It fits him perfectly as my Brisbane friend and I met on the cruise ship we worked on together in Scotland. It’s so lovely to know he’s come from such a good home and his name brings back such fun memories.
He’s settled in so well, in fact, Cruz sleeps better than my 4 year old!! He’s had a few accidents around the house but otherwise he’s been amazing. He’s made great mates with the farm dogs. Our cat Molly tolerates him but gives him a few love taps every now and then. I’m so glad she didn’t get upset with us like cats can often do. Cruz is definitely Farmer’s little man though. He goes off to work with him each day, and at the end of the night those two are snoring on the couch together (don’t worry, he’s on his blanket). He’s great with the boys, there’s been a few lego casualties but they’re learning pretty quick. He’s a bit too quick to take pictures at the moment. Once he settles they’ll be more photos. He’s such a cutie!
As for the health kick, well why not throw fuel to the fire! I wouldn’t say I’ve completely cut sugar out but I’ve certainly cut back. Life’s too short not to eat cake right? So my vice over the last two busy weeks funny enough was SWEARING! I have no idea I could be this bad!! I guess it was tiredness mostly, but rather than shout or yell my frustrations you’d find me muttering all the swears I could think of!! haha! Luckily I’ve started to go to bed earlier so I can cut that out. A swear jar would of had me broke!! I must get a Love Your Sister swear jar all the same.
So I’m two weeks into the job now and it’s going great guns. My job includes a little retail, planning and coordinating events, booking or giving local tours, assisting travellers with enquiries, directions and recommending local services (especially accomodation). I’m sure there’ll be heaps more to add to the list as time goes by. My favourite part of the job is giving awesome service. I LOVE IT! It’s so addictive. I’ve had so many lovely chats today with tourists, volunteers and locals and it’s my job!! #winning
