Last week I was lucky enough to have 2 nights in Perth – Farmer and kidlet free. Doesn’t happen very often so I was thrilled to chill a little and no hairdressers to annoy. I met up with some new friends I met “online” – doesn’t that sound dodge – in the Clever Cookie Blogging course we recently completed and they were sooo lovely! It was like we’ve been old pals for years. We were tempted to meet each other with a rose but that sounded too #Batchy, so kimonos were the go instead. Champagne flowed and nibbles were scoffed (mostly by me, whoops) before we raced off to a blogging workshop hosted by the lovely Nikki Parkinson from her amazing fashion and lifestyle blog Styling You.
A room full of bloggers is kind of surreal when you see them in the crowd and meet them in real life. Nikki was just gorgeous as imagined and happy to chat, offer advice and take pictures. I possibly drank more champagne than my new friends (no surprises) so sitting still and containing my excitement did take some doing. When each of us introduced ourselves, why we blog and for how long, through champagne giggles I managed “I’m completely mad, got a lot to say, and been doing this for 3 weeks” Nice one Jo! Real smooth! Definitely the new kid on the block in a sea of experienced bloggers. Note to self for future reference – always keep your cool! So I did and I was most excited when upon meeting Nikki- she just loved my kimono. Made my god damn day! The styliest lady I know was asking me, moi! where did I get it from?!! Of course my champagne haze of a memory belted out the wrong shop which I later instagrammed the correction. What a douche! ALWAYS KEEP YOUR COOL JO! The night ended with lots of laughs and great friends made indeed! Awesome!
The next night was Nikki’s book launch for Unlock Your Style. I arrived in amazing time which is pretty impressive driving into the city in peak hour. Most people I could see were with friends, and I briefly chatted to a few girls in the lift. As we lined up to go in, I swear a wave of coolness swept over me and I was making friends and mingling like a regular TV host. Champagne on arrival (hello!) and I was talking to staff, people just arriving and of course (my old pal) Nikki – even posing for pictures together! On fire baby! My new blogger friend Shannon arrived with her mum and we drank more champagne. Canapes were offered but like a lady I politely declined. (note – see next post, what I ate, I was actually too full to fit another thing in! oink!) It was held on the same night as The Rolling Stones concert in Perth, so the buzz in Perth at the time was amazing, drinks on the Rygdes terrace was divine. We soon went inside and listened to our beloved Nikki help us to unlock our style. So much great advice! Loved it. We all purchased books and lined up to get them signed. I met and made more friends and even chatted away to those I noticed that came along alone. Because why the hell not aye! More photos, more giggles and our night ended swapping web pages, twitter accounts, Facebook friend requests in the high end fashion streets of Perth looking RIDICULES! Yeah, we looked uncool but we owned it, nearly wetting ourselves laughing in the process. Went home listening to The Rolling Stones cranked up on an absolute high!! (Image: Styling You)
So my morale to the story is… there is nothing dodge about making friends online and better still, meeting them in person. I can see myself lunching and drinking champagne with my new friends well into my Golden Girl era, they were THAT lovely! No guesses which character I’d be! Haha! Ttfn x
ps. Do yourself a favour – get a hold of Nikki’s book! It’s freakin brilliant!
