Everything else, Memories

What’s your idea of romance?

Happy Valentines Day! Gawd that sounds so cheesy but it happens only once a year so surely it can’t be that bad!? But so many people roll their eyes and mutter it’s not something they celebrate. It seems a little forced to tell the one you love just how much you love them on a hallmark kind of day yet many moons ago I wished like hell I’d be lucky enough to receive a card full of all the words I wanted to hear…except when it’s someone you’re completely not attracted to!

That’s a bit of a clanger right there really. It takes so much courage as it is to admit to someone you fancy them but if it’s not returned well that’s all kind of awks.

Let me take you back to circa 1993 (shit really?!!) I was fresh outta high school and still too shit scared to talk to boys. I was still in the land of major crushes and had one on a guy in my class – let’s call him *Bob. *Bob was tall and gangly, flicked his hair a lot (omergawd) and had an earring. He was into Midnight Oil a lot and suddenly so was I. I hung off his every word and thought he was sooo funny. Even when he told me I was the sort of girl he’d like to punch in the face – that sooo meant he liked me – hello, wtf?!!

Anyways, I finally admitted to my friends I was madly in lust with him – to which they all laughed they’re asses off and said “No way!!” But made them all swear never to reveal.

A few days later, just before Valentines Day I was given a note from a girl in my class who shrieked “OMG! Jo!!! Someone has the hots for you!” OH.MY.GOD!! omgomg!!! Finally this was my moment, he loves me too!!! OMG!!! I opened the note and it was sweet and very neat writing that read “Hello Jo, how is your day?” And I was like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!! Turns out my admirer wasn’t *Bob at all. It was an overseas student (picture Long Duk Dong) that I hadn’t really spoken to before – eek! Well – how was a girl to handle this with style and grace? BLUSH like I’ve never blushed before and try very hard not to cry when I coughed!!

Ah dear me! My Long Duk Dong friend must of misread my friendliness and *Bob – turns out he was a slime. He tried it on at a party and I faked being asleep. He later went home with another lass so it all worked out for the best! #quality

Farmer and I will no doubt enjoy tonight with a dinner at home with the boys with a 6 pack of Captain Morgan and cokes! Ah! No doubt watch trashy tv and have cups of tea together. That’s our version of romance. We’ll have a date night sometime soon when we’re back in the city. My 5 year old has a Lindt chocolate ready for his little valentine – so cute! Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? What’s your version of romance?

** Due to the floods and damaged roads around my small country town, we have no mail at the moment. I’m waiting for some post to complete my upcoming blog post. Pretty sure we’ll be good to go very soon! Til then, get those awesome service stories ready. Have an awesome week!

Love Jo xx

I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day … although that being said, my husband walked in the door with a single rose after work last night because he’s headed to the Guns n Roses concert tonight. So I’ll be spending the evening with my three littlest valentines and once they are asleep I’ll relax with a movie and a cup of tea. #teamIBOT

I took a leap of faith and wrote to the one I was crushing on, ” I really like you, will you be mine?” 17yrs ago today, and we are still together…. married, 2 amazing kiddies and one on the way!!! We don’t celebrate V Day, we celebrate/acknowledge that another year has passed and we have survived it- together.
Happy 17yrs to my ‘Sparky’ ?

This made me laugh. I may or may not also have had a crush such as this. But no Long Duk Dong to speak of. Not sure whether to be happy or sad about that 😉

I dunno either!! haha! So typical of my love life in my teens, there was no Jake Ryan in those days – not in my hood anyways lol! xx

We don’t usually do anything in particular, but this year we are heading out for dinner and a movie, so I’m feeling all loved up! Your childhood story had me giggling like a school girl!

Hehe! It’s funny I can remember the old stories but not if I’ve washed the kids uniform or not!! Hope you had a lovely night Renee xx

My version of romance is the quiet, steady type. It doesn’t have to be flashy. It may be just like eating pizza over TV, but it has to be for life. xx

I’m with you Jacq. I’ve never been over the top with this one and if it is to be a flashy night it’s often a spur of the moment thing xx

Your idea of Valentines night sounds just like mine! Nothing like a dose of reality TV – Married At First Sight makes us feel so smug about how far we’ve come! Much Love.

Don’t you just love that show?!! I am completely hooked this season. It’s nice to be smug we wont ever have to be in the dating stage again! xx
